Demand for Software Professionals on the Rise in India
The pandemic has accelerated the global demand for people skilled in cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and 5G. And guess what, all these companies wanting to hire are coming to India. Let’s look at what India’s top recruiters are saying.
Sometime in mid-June, Nasscom reported that India’s top 5 IT companies (TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCL Technologies, and Tech Mahindra) were collectively planning to add an estimated 96,000 employees.
According to Naukri JobSpeak, hiring demand by the IT-software and services sector was 55% higher than it was in January, and 51% higher than it was in June 2019. In fact, demand on the existing talent pool was growing so high that it pushed up salaries, as much as 50% in some cases because companies were rushing to make counteroffers to retain their staff.
“The pandemic has fast-tracked digitization by 5 to 10 years,” agrees Sreerupa Sengupta, global head of HR for 3i Infotech, an IT and infrastructure service provider as quoted by SHRM. With 4,000 employees around the world, his company still plans to hire 1,000 more tech employees within the next year, he said.
A report published in Mint last month titled, ‘RGF International Recruitment’s Salary Watch 2021: India’, those employed in roles like software development, artificial intelligence, robotics, and data science were expected to get one of the highest salaries in the region, averaging between ₹50 and 80 lakh per annum with salary increments up to 40% when changing jobs.
First-quarter results declared by Tata Consultancy Services last week revealed that the company had added 20,409 new employees during April-June, its highest ever net headcount addition in a quarter.
Capgemini, which has 1.25 lakh employees in India is hiring experts in cloud, digital, cyber security, AI, Internet of Things, edge computing, and 5G engineering skills. They are also looking for talent in data management, SAP, Java, Microsoft, Testing, and Oracle. At Genpact, those with cloud programming skills are in high demand, its global hiring head revealed.
