Keeping Employees Engaged with Learning
Ninety-three percent of employees say they would stay at a company longer if it invested in their careers, according to a 2018 LinkedIn report on Workforce Learning. You don’t really need research to tell you that.
To truly make people own the work they do, they need to feel the employer values them and that they are actively interested in their success. Not just on the job at hand but successful on the whole. An employer that makes a firm investment to provide learning opportunities for their employees, will be ahead of the curve in retaining talent.
Here are 3 three strategies to start with.
Soft skills
Behavioral skill training helps employees be better at how they interact with their peers, teams, and eventually makes them better employees. Take for instance Eli Lilly’s training to remove gender biases which not only enhances safety at work but equips them to thrive in any environment.
Keep it short
A frequent lament from employees is lack of time, for learning or training exercises. Instead of a whole day’s program on workplace safety, why not offer a short video of about seven minutes followed by a 30-minute interactive session that allows participants to share their feedback and opinions.
Enlist your managers
The first roadblock you encounter to training will be managers who are often hard-pressed for time. Convince them to put aside all schedules for a few hours to engage their team in learning. Show examples of benefits achieved by those whose team has done so, understand what the best time would be, identify which area needs improvement, and so on.In the end, we are all aspiring to be better in countless ways – in life, at work, in relationships, everywhere. Towards this, you will need to let your people and your team learn.
