Why Learning Math Early is as Important as Language
When it comes to Math, parents are confused if it is too early to start their children on classes. infyni’s expert trainer Swati Shrivastava shares her years of experience teaching young children.
Mathematics is a subject that is a bit complex, mostly for parents. Unsure when exactly is the right time to introduce their kids to teachers are often asked by concerned parents if any harm can be caused with premature exposure. How you do it is, the most critical factor.
No one can deny the utility of Math in our daily lives. As a core subject, it is imperative to make the foundation of Mathematics very strong.
Children need to understand Math as early as they start learning English, right at the primary level of education and in such a way that learning occurs in interesting and fun ways. Getting them excited enough, to look forward to learning and motivating children to be curious is what Math is all about.
Being a Math teacher I use different teaching methods and aids to make my classes engaging and interactive. I am sharing a few tips and tricks that has helped me and my students get a better learning experience.
It is not enough to start with counting or adding
– Incorporating games and puzzles into math lessons make the material more engaging and help students develop their problem-solving skills.
– Using hands-on activities make math more interactive. For example, to teach types of angles, minute and hour hands of a wall clock can be used.
Bring Math into meaningful contexts
– Making connections to real-world scenarios. For example, if students are learning about fractions, a chocolate bar can be used to teach different fractional values.
– Incorporating technology into math lessons. There are many interactive math apps, puzzles and games that can make learning math more fun and engaging.
Fascinate and intrigue them with stories
– Using humour and storytelling to make math concepts more interesting. For example, creating a story to solve a numerical problem.
– Varying the instruction methods to cater to different learning styles is needed because kids may be different in their learning abilities.
Create a motivating environment
– Children need to be appreciated for their efforts and achievements very clearly. I use compliments to encourage them. I give them stars when they give their best.
Lastly, I make sure to create a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages learners to ask questions and enjoy the learning process.
To conclude, the process of learning math can be made more enjoyable and effective by giving the power to students to explore their thoughts and ideas. Never bind them with conventional teaching methods. Let them explore the world of mathematics and watch the results. ~
