India has emerged as
the country with the highest number of games downloaded per month in the world. According
to Sensor Tower research, the country saw 761.2 million game downloads on
mobiles in March, 2022. This makes it 16% of the total worldwide downloads, followed
by the US market at 8.7% and Brazil at 7.6%.
For quite some time now, India has been the biggest markets
for the gaming industry in categories like mobile, fantasy, augmented reality,
virtual reality, consoles and cloud-based games. Other studies also point to similar
findings.
Of the 834 million internet users
in India most play video games on some device or the other, according to
Statista, 2021. India seems to be in the top 5 markets worldwide by share of internet
users, who play video games on any device.
What is more interesting is that
Indian gaming industries are using smart technologies to enhance the experience
for gamers. Especially so, in fantasy sports. Leading companies like Dream
Sports and Mobile Premier League have made huge strides in this kind of user
experience.
However, India is not among the top
revenue generators as yet. But revenues in the mobile game segment is expected
to reach USD 3.83 billion in 2022 with earning growing by 7% every year.
This could be a good time to brush up
your skills in technologies like AI and Augmented Reality.
